Terms and conditions
These terms apply to anyone using the BASDU website and to anyone who becomes a BASDU member, learner or approved centre; by using the site or our services you agree to them.
Part A: Website terms of use
A1. About us. basdu.org is run by BASDU Ltd, 131 Ayresome Street, Middlesbrough, England, TS1 4PN. [Company number]
A2. Using the site. You may use the site for lawful purposes only. You must not try to gain unauthorised access, introduce viruses, or use automated tools to copy or overload it.
A3. Information on the site. We try to keep information accurate and up to date, but it is general guidance and not legal advice. Laws and SIA rules change; check the official sources before relying on them.
A4. Certificate verification. The online check shows the status of a BASDU certificate at the time you search. Employers and clients should also check the handler's SIA licence on the SIA public register.
A5. Member directory. Member companies supply their own details. Listing shows current membership; it is not a recommendation, and clients should make their own checks before hiring.
A6. Links. We are not responsible for the content of other websites we link to.
A7. Availability. We may change, suspend or withdraw the site at any time and do not guarantee it will always be available.
Part B: Membership terms
B1. Fees. Individual and company membership each cost £100 a year, paid in advance. Membership runs for 12 months from the date we confirm it.
B2. Benefits. Members are listed in the BASDU directory while membership is current. Company members also receive free K9 compliance and audit support, as described in the BASDU Standards.
B3. Your obligations. Members must give accurate information, keep it up to date, follow the BASDU Security Dog Handling Standards, and use the BASDU name and member badge only as allowed in the copyright notice.
B4. Renewal. We will remind you before your membership ends. It does not renew automatically unless you ask us to.
B5. Cancellation by you. Individual members who join online or by phone may cancel within 14 days and receive a full refund. After that, fees are not refundable, but membership continues until the end of the paid period.
B6. Suspension or ending by BASDU. We may suspend or end a membership, without refund, for a serious or repeated breach of the BASDU Standards, false information, or conduct that brings BASDU into disrepute. We will explain why in writing, and you may appeal under the BASDU appeals policy.
Part C: Learner and centre terms
C1. Learners. Courses are delivered and charged by approved centres under their own booking terms, which must meet the BASDU fees, cancellations and refunds policy. Paying for a course does not guarantee a pass or a certificate.
C2. Approved centres. There is no charge to apply for centre approval. The centre approval fee is £450 and is payable only once the centre has met every requirement and the BASDU Selection Committee has agreed to approve it; approval is confirmed and the centre listed when the fee is paid. If an application is referred or refused, no fee is charged. Approved centres also agree to the BASDU centre agreement and the BASDU Centre Policies and Procedures.
C3. Certificates. Certificates remain the property of BASDU and may be withdrawn as set out in the BASDU certification policy.
Part D: General
D1. Our liability. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or anything else that cannot be limited by law. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are not affected. Otherwise, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability to a member or centre is limited to the fees paid to BASDU in the 12 months before the claim.
D2. Handlers' responsibility. Handlers, member companies and centres remain legally responsible for their own dogs and operations. BASDU certification shows a standard was met at assessment; it does not transfer that responsibility to BASDU.
D3. Complaints. Please contact info@basdu.org; complaints are handled under the BASDU complaints policy.
D4. Changes. We may update these terms. The version on the website at the time you use it, or when your membership starts or renews, applies.
D5. Law. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings there.
